Trip to the Dentist

A few months ago Jessica fell at the park and cut her chin open and had to have stitches.  It was very traumatic.  A few days later she complained that her tooth hurt and I looked inside her mouth and saw that one of her molars had broken almost in half.  We took her to the dentist but he said that it looked like it hadn't hit a nerve and to not worry about it unless she kept complaining.  Well, she did.  We made an appointment but they couldn't get us in for a couple months.  So, finally today, we took her to the dentist.  She was surprisingly excited about it.  I kept telling her that the dentist would fix her tooth so that it wouldn't hurt anymore, so she had been waiting for this day.

We went in at 7:45am and sat int the waiting room for a good 45 minutes before they brought us back.  Then they gave her a little concoction of yucky-tasting drugs and sent us to the waiting room for another hour.  by the time they called her back she was pretty out of it.  They put something over her nose, but I'm not sure if it was gas or just oxygen.  They called it "conscious sedation."  Basically she was awake, she was just really relaxed.  They strapped her whole body down (mostly so she didn't roll off the chair) and hooked a heart rate monitor to her toe.  She did great!  I was definitely more scared that her.  She had to have a baby root canal and got a silver crown (She wouldn't let me take an "after" picture).

She fell asleep on the way home and slept like a rock for the next four hours!  When she woke up she was totally fine - no pain, no whining.  She even remembers everything that went on, she just didn't really mind it. Now she's pretty proud of her special silver tooth, and I'm pretty proud of my girl.

Sounds like she did great! My little 3 year old needs some dental work done and I'm so scared about it. He won't even let the dentist look in his mouth. He needs complete sedation. I'm glad it went well for you and your daughter. It's great to hear about your life again!
