Bedtime Stories and Promotions

Since Hank will be in Korea for so long, we wanted to do something fun to help Jessica remember him. We are video taping Hank reading children's books so Jessica and I can watch them before bed every night. It has been so fun. If you have any children's stories that you like please leave a comment because we are trying to collect a bunch. We want to own most of them so we can look at the pictures while he's reading.

Jessica is getting so fun! If you can get her attention she can't help but smile. In fact, I an even get her to smile while she's crying sometimes. She doesn't want to, but she can't help it!

Hank had his promotion ceremony yesterday (at the crack of dawn). He is now officially a staff Sergeant. This is the baby and I "pinning" him. He was supposed to stand at attention the whole time I was pinning him, but I stole a kiss at the end, Ha ha! Above is the First Sergeant (Company Commander) giving him his award. Hank even had to give a speech to his whole company. Go Hank!

I love to read the babies "Snowmen at Night", it is a rhyming book, which are always my favorite! (It might be called "What Snowmen Do at Night?)
That baby is so dang cute!!

That is such a sweet idea! L just loves the Eric Carle "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you See?" books (also one about polar bear, baby bear, panda bear). There is a series by Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman about Bear that are so cute (Bear Wants More, Bear Snores On, etc). I love anything Dr. Seuss, but some of them are too long for that age. Jillian Harker has a set about "I Love You, Daddy (Mommy, Grandma, Grandpa)" that are pretty cute. More bears! "Guess How Much I Love You" by Sam McBratney is classic (the one w/ the rabbits). "Love you Forever" is another popular one. We really like "Jesus Wants me for a Sunbeam" by Hans Wilhelm-the illustrations are so cute, plus it gives an extra verse I never knew. Obviously, I could go on and on... I will look through my books and my goodreads list and can e-mail more.
Love that you kissed him! That's so cute. You all are the sweetest little family!

Try Daughter of a King by Rachel Ann Nunes. It is one of our girls favorites. One time Grandma S was tending and she read it to them and she loved it so much, she went out and bought a copy for herself. Congrats on the promotion Sargent.

Go Hank. That's awesome!
What a wonderful memory to leave her with. Keeping her Dad in her life every day like that is genius! You two are wonderful parents and Congrats to Hank, but sad we are to see you have to leave for so long. We love all three of you!

Go Hank! Nice job on the sneaky kiss Danica. That is so sad Hank has to leave for so long. But that's good that you will be so close to family. Does this mean that we can hang out more? I always like "Good night moon" and "Panda bear, Panda bear"

Hey Danica...found your blog while doing a little linking around ward blogs...what a bummer Hank will be gone for a year! But how nice to be near family. We did the book thing, too during Justin's deployments. The boys loved it. The one I remember the most is Peekaboo Kisses and at the end when they ask what kind of kisses do you like best, the answer would be Daddy kisses! And Hank gets to smother Jessica w/kisses on video :)

I lied, it's Animal Kisses (not Peekaboo Kisses)

Oh Danica, it's always so cool to come read your blog with all the new happenings and to see Jessica grow. I love her smile! She's really so, so precious. :) Congrats on Hank's promotion...I think Korea may be a blessing in disguise. Still, sorry to hear he'll have to be away from his two favorite girls for so long. I wish I had a story for you....you'll have to give me all the mommy pointers when I finally become a parent! I can only hope to be as good a mom as you are. :)

Question: Where do you get your recipes from?

I love her smile! About the books, you need to get a few touchy-feely books because she will be getting into them and Hank can reat her my favorite THATS NOT MY PRINCESS. It's a usborne book and I'm sure they have it in a book store. If I find it I will pick it up for you.
